“Is it better for a man to have chosen evil than to have good imposed upon him?” (Anthony Burgess)–A Clockwork Orange
On the Clockwork Orange theme, today we have a deep philosophical question. Personally, I would say that, as a proponent of free will, there can only be one answer. And yet, is the state’s job not to impose good, to force men to have as little choice in the matter as they can? The state want good men, however they get them, they make the punishments for choosing evil as draconian as possible. At the moment there is still a choice. Will there be in the future?
